A group of 12 students from Campion School, Aylesford School, Kenilworth School and Round Oak School completed their FA Level One Certificate in Coaching Football last week.
The course was organised by the Central Warwickshire Sports Partnership and Birmingham FA. Ali Knight, the Partnership Development Manager and course tutor delivered the session during a number of afternoon and evening sessions. The course involved the students learning how to safely organise and deliver a coaching session, ensuring it was enjoyable for all involved and also help them to develop as individuals and as a team. The course also involved a lot of classroom work where the students worked together to complete tasks on topics such as how people learn, safe guarding children in sport, equality in football and qualities of a coach. As part of the course the students also complete their FA Emergency Aid Qualification.
All 12 students had to be assessed on both the practical and theory elements of the course and all passed with flying colours. The students demonstrated excellent organisation skills and were able to communicate confidently to the group.
The Sports Partnership will now work with the students to help them develop their coaching skills further and develop football in local primary schools. The partnership is keen to run more Level One Coaching courses in the future. Students over the age of 16 should keep an eye on the partnership website www.cwschoolsport.org.uk or follow the partnership on twitter @cwschoolsport to hear more about future courses
